What is a title tag and why is it important?
Technically, the title tag defines the title of the web page. The page title shows up in the blue bar at the top of the web browser window. The page title is also what goes into your favorite list when you set a bookmark.
Inside the html, the title tag is located near the top of the web page between the and tags. You don't see it on the page itself, you have to "View Source" to see it. Failing to put keywords in your title tag is the number one search engine optimization mistake as explained by Stephen Mahaney, President of Planet Ocean Communications, a search engine consulting firm,
"Many people fail to place their keywords in their title tags -- in fact, this is the number one optimization mistake. You don't have to put all your keywords in every page's title, just put in the ones that are relevant to that specific page."
Search engines love title tags. The title tag on your main page is the most critical element of the entire site. Make sure it contains your best keywords. Make this one change and you'll do better with the search engines.
