The Top Eight Sites

Do you know the most successful sites in the world? Here they are ranked by traffic. China and Japan are emerging as heavy Internet users. Asia represents a market more than twice the size of the United States.

1. Yahoo.com - the venerable search engine giant hangs onto number one with its search, chat rooms, free email, and clubs. One third of all Internet users use Yahoo.

2. MSN.com - is number two. This is the MSN dialup access site (Microsoft.com is number 11). They lock in their home page - hence the high usage.

3. Google.com - the greatest site on the web in my opinion. The site is made up on over 100,000 servers so it never slows down, regardless of use. Google has separate sites for each language and this is just the English site.

4. Yahoo.co.jp - Yahoo's Japanese version. This shows Japan's voracious appetite for the Internet. Japan is a small country yet their national search engine ranks number 4 in the world.

5. Baidu.com - The 5th most popular site in the world and no one has heard of it! Baidu is the leading Chinese language search engine. China is becoming industrialized and is emerging on the Internet.

6. Sina.com.cn - Here is another high traffic site no one has heard of. Sina is China's leading online media company out of Shanghai. The Chinese are heavy into streaming media, almost like television in this country.

7. Passport.net - this is Microsoft's passport system. You signup once and it allows you into all sites that support the passport system. It must be popular because it ranks number seven in the world.

8. Ebay.com - the popular person-to-person auction site where everyone buys and sells stuff. I would have expected it to be higher but number 8 isn't bad.

So there you have it -- the Internet's big eight. These aren't mom-and-pop companies anymore. When you talk about succeeding on the Internet companies like these is what you're talking about!
