Search engines send out spiders to index your site. The spider reports back to the search engine (with an evaluation score of your site) and that determines your ranking. Spiders need to be able to go from page to page looking for textual information. Think of your main page as a central hub with roads leading out to each of the pages. The spider needs to be able to travel along these roads to find the information it needs.
Spider Blocks are elements built into the site that prohibit the spider from travelling throughout your site. For example, search engine spiders cannot index sites that require any kind of registration or password. A spider cannot fill out a form of any kind. The same rule applies to indexing the content from a searchable database. That's because the spider cannot fill out a form to query that database.
For Web marketing purposes the best solution is to create static pages (pictures and text only) that the engines will be able to find and index without performing any special action on your site, such as pressing a button. Web databases work great. However, if you use one be aware that the information inside the database does will not help your search engine ranking.
