People ask us if a special domain name would help people find your site. A domain name itself will not guarantee traffic. You still have to optimize the site and list it. Only when the search engines "picks you up" by indexing your site do you get a listing in a search engine.
That being said, it turns out that having the domain names rich in search terms does work in your favor. Brent Winters of the Market Position Monthly points out, "Sites with the keyword in the domain name tend to rank higher than domains without a keyword." For example if you want people to find you when they search for "Southern California Real Estate" then buying the domain "SouthernCaliforniaRealEstate.com" would be a good thing to do.
Major players register domain names rich in each of their main keywords. Then they develop a little site that contains the text, titles, and headings for each specific keyword. They adopt a strategy of having a keyword rich domain name and a specialty site for each of their main keywords. This helps with their ranking and it helps with their link popularity too.
