For the past few years we have been focusing our optimization on Google. If you missed Leslie Stahl's piece on 60 Minutes about Google, it emphasized Google's dominance in the Search Engine market. They are the standard.
Google is only about 4 years old. When I first saw Google I was impressed how quickly it returned a search. After seeing 60 Minutes now we know why. Google has 100,000 computers supporting the site. Imagine a site hosted on 100,000 computers! That is how they can handle thousands of simultaneous searches and return answers within seconds. Unlike its competitors (like Yahoo, Altavista, and MSN), Google left them in the dust because their site doesn't slow down. No one uses those guys any more.
Google dominates search engine marketing too. We have to figure out what Google is doing and optimize our pages accordingly. When Google makes a change, everybody listens. Our knowledge base stays on top of what Google is doing.
Google has a market capitalization larger than Ford and General Motors combined. Even the mighty Microsoft can't compete because Google's two founders are too smart and too aggressive. We will continue to optimize for Google and let the others fall where they may.
